Manchester United hope Lisandro Martínez will be fit to return at the end of March after establishing that the injury which forced the defender off against West Ham was not an anterior cruciate ligament tear.

Martínez sustained collateral ligament damage in his right knee and will not require surgery. The aim at United is to have him back after the March international break, before which he will miss at least seven matches; that will rise to eight if the team make it to the FA Cup quarter-finals.
