This best odds guaranteed (BOG) calculator shows what you are paid when you take an early price on a horse. If the starting price (SP) is bigger than the price you took, a BOG bookmaker pays you at the SP instead.
Enter your stake, your price and the SP. The calculator shows which price you are paid at and how much extra BOG added.

Best odds guaranteed calculator
The short version
- BOG pays the bigger of your price and the SP.
- It can only add to your winnings, never take away.
- So taking a price early with a BOG bookmaker is never worse than betting at SP.
How to use the calculator
Enter your stake (per part for an each-way bet), the price you took and the official SP. If a horse was withdrawn after you bet, add the Rule 4 deduction on your price.
Worked example
Worked example
You take 6/1 on a horse, £10 each-way with 1/4 odds. It drifts and goes off at 8/1, then wins.
At your price you would win £60 + £15 = £75. BOG pays at 8/1 instead: £80 + £20 = £100. That is £25 extra for nothing.
If the horse had shortened to 5/1, you would still be paid at your 6/1.
Why BOG is worth having
Without BOG, taking an early price is a gamble on the market: you win if the horse shortens and come off worse if it drifts. With BOG, you keep the upside and drop the downside. Over many bets that is a small but real edge, so it pays to use bookmakers that offer it.
Check the terms
- BOG usually covers UK and Irish racing, often only from a set time on race day.
- Some bookmakers cap the extra winnings, exclude certain races or remove BOG from accounts.
- If you are paid at SP, the Rule 4 on your early price no longer applies, because the SP already allows for the withdrawal.
